Dental erosion

Dental erosion is the destruction of the different layers of teeth caused by acids of dietary or gastric origin.

Mild erosion usually goes unnoticed, manifesting as a thinning of the enamel.

In more advanced stages, the enamel is destroyed, and the underlying dentin becomes exposed. At this stage, teeth may become sensitive to hot and cold and tend to appear more yellow.

If left untreated or unmanaged, the condition can progress to affect the tooth’s nerve, potentially leading to more severe issues such as toothaches or infections.

Scientific studies have shown that, depending on age, between 30% and 50% of people in Switzerland are affected by dental erosion.
