Cavity Treatment with Composite

In cases where a cavity has not yet affected the pulp (or nerve) of the tooth, we remove the decay (under local anesthesia) and restore the missing dental tissue using composite material.

For many years, composite—a tooth-colored filling material—has been the standard for restoring both anterior and posterior teeth. Metallic amalgam, while still legally permitted, is now rarely indicated.

The shade of the composite is carefully selected to match your tooth color precisely. The final result is discreet and natural.

In its initial state, composite is fully malleable, allowing the dentist to skillfully sculpt the tooth and give it the desired shape. This makes it ideal for aesthetic reconstructions and a preferred material for:

Treating small cavities
Cervical fillings
Minor enamel fractures
Small-scale cosmetic corrections

Inlays et onlays

If the cavity in the tooth is larger, direct restoration with composite may not be sufficient to ensure the tooth’s durability. In this case, we recommend crafting an onlay.

An onlay is a custom-made piece of composite or ceramic designed in a laboratory for each specific tooth. This piece is then bonded to the tooth, ensuring greater strength and functionality.

For anterior teeth, if the tooth damage is too extensive, we may recommend fabricating a veneer or a crown. Learn more about veneers here.

In cases of advanced cavities, the tooth’s nerve may be affected, requiring root canal treatment.
